Puddlers Bridge

Located in Pentrebach, the Puddlers Bridge is a single span construction that provides an extension of the Trevithick Trail. Spanning the A4060, the new bridge enables safe crossing for cyclists and pedestrians across the busy main road. To enhance the structure at night three main components have been illuminated; the guardrail system to provide marker lighting; the decorative locomotive engine panels, which adorn the north & south elevations of the bridge; and the wheel, which is an integrated feature of the main bridge support tower.

Discreet LED luminaries are mounted within the guardrail section, which forms part of the parapet post system. Luminaires are retained in the rail by stainless steel springs and anti tamper fixings. When fitted the luminaries moulded polycarbonate visor provides a flush finish, following the profile of the rail section. A low voltage supply is distributed to each luminaire via a harness inside the guardrail. AC/DC power supplies are located in feeder pillars on the roadside banks.

On the north & south bridge elevations, large frames house models of Trevithick's locomotive. The engine panel frames are illuminated by High Flux LED luminaries mounted at the top and bottom of each panel. Via a harness running through the guardrail, each luminaire receives DC system power from LED drivers mounted within one of the feeder pillars.

To highlight the decorative driving wheel that sits between the two main bridge support towers, two compact FL200 floodlights have been mounted on a 12.0M high lighting column, located in the central reserve of the main road. Floodlights utilise remote control gear mounted in the column base.

The complete project was installed and commissioned by Chromatica's installation team with kind assistance from Merthyr Tydfil CBC Street Lighting Department.
